Co-Extrusion and On-Line Weather-Strip

Taking steps out of your process further saves you money. Mikron has the capability to insert weather-stripping during the extrusion process so your team doesn't have to.

Flexible Co-Extruded Weather-Tight Seals

  • Improved Air & Water Resistance
The resistant to water and air intrusion can be improved by having this weatherseal integral to the part. Co-extrusion of flexible materials can be utilized in the assembly of parts to improve the resistance to water and air intrusion in the window product.

For example, a flexible flap on tip of a glazing bead provides added protection from water building under the IG unit. Mikron has recently applied this principle to the assembly of exterior accessories by applying a flexible flap above the snap-fit feature. In products with compression weatherseal applications, window products such as casements and awnings, a flexible flap or bulb can be utilized to create an integral weatherseal.

  • Glazing Compression Flexibility
    - a flexible flap at the glass contact point is more forgiving of glazing compression, whether it's due to the glazing bead structural requirements or variation in the IG unit thickness.
  • Potential Labor Savings
    - In compression weatherseal applications, integral weatherseals save fabricators time and labor typically spent to insert the weatherstrip. The window products will still have the weatherstrip pocket in the part for future replacement or repair requirements.
  • Flex Shapes
    - Depending on the application and function of the part, the flex may be solid flap or a hollow bulb shaped.
  • Flex Colors
    - Flex material color can be matched to your standard white, almond, and adobe PVC extrusion colors. Black is also available for applications requiring contrast or a constant flex color.
  • Flex Material
    - Mikron has formulated flex materials that meet the application requirements and industry standards for weathering and durability. Mikron's Materials Lab works closely with our suppliers to determine the best material for part performance.

On-Line Weather-strip Insertion - Pile and Bulb Seals

Our lineal weather-strip program helps our customers gain overall efficiency in the production of vinyl windows. By inserting weather-strip "on line" using Mikron's patent pending insertion plate process, non value-added steps are eliminated from the fabrication process. Better utilization of floor space, inventory management, and reduced labor in handling extrusions, are just a few of the benefits window fabricators can gain.
